Our everyday merendero: bread, mate cocido, and every once in a while a full barbecue for the whole family.
The same scene happens every day, and it never stops moving us: the table fills up, the mate cocido is served warm, and every kid builds their own bread however they like it, some with dulce de leche all the way to the edge, some with a hot dog and mustard.
Every once in a while a full barbecue shows up too, cooked by a group of friends and volunteers on a rooftop terrace, so it arrives warm at the merendero and gets handed out one by one to the kids waiting at the table.
It's not just about the food. It's the long table, the older kids helping the little ones, a moment of the day where everyone is welcome, no exceptions.
