A new step

"This one's new, see?" That's how the orthopedic walker recently given to Dylan, a boy from one of the merendero's families, gets introduced. He holds onto it firmly as he takes his first steps with it, laughing, stumbling a little, looking up at whoever is holding him steady as if searching for approval with every attempt.

Beyond who he is, what this moment represents is huge: that something as simple as a walker can change a kid's whole life, and his family's too. Being able to move, play, and reach out to others on his own.
